Willie H. Bowles, 90, of Crewe, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2012.
He was the widower of Mary Lee Bowles and is survived by his wife, Frances Falls Bowles. Survivors also include his son, William E. Bowles (Susan) of Midlothian; two grandsons, William E. Bowles, Jr. of Glendale, California, and Matthew T. Bowles of Richmond; four nephews, Ronald E. Bowles (Liz) of Farmville, Larry Bowles (Juanita) of Powhatan, Sam Bowles, Jr. (Kim) of North Carolina, and Clarence Ferguson of Cumberland; a niece, Lucille Ferguson, also of Cumberland. Willie was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
The family will receive friends 6 8 p.m., Thursday, at the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Road (Bus. Hwy. 460), near Blackstone. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, March 9, 2012, at the Crewe Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Crewe Cemetery with military honors provided by the Crewe VFW Post 7819 of which he was a lifetime member. Willie was a WWII US Navy veteran having served in the European-African Theatre, as well as the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre.
