Virginia graduated from Westhampton College of the University of Richmond, where she played basketball and field hockey. She married Gordon in 1950 and moved to Blackstone, where she taught school in Nottoway and Lunenburg Counties. She was for many years an owner of the construction and rental business, Gordon Cole, Builder. Virginia loved her community and friends in Blackstone, and was a devoted member of Crenshaw United Methodist Church. She enjoyed getting to know people, was an avid reader, enjoyed playing bridge and had a passion for golf. She and Gordon loved to travel, and were blessed to have visited many places in the US and abroad. They especially enjoyed spending winters in Florida, and cherished the friendships they made there. Virginia was a kind and generous soul, who loved her family. She will be missed greatly by them.

The family would like to pay special thanks to Virginia’s current and past caregivers – Linda Drinkwater, Jennifer Spainhour, Brenda Nagy, Bunny Hudson, Maureen Story, Tammy Crutchfield and Jeanette Meade. These dear ladies helped make it possible for Virginia to spend her final years at home.

Funeral arrangements: Services will be held at Crenshaw United Methodist Church in Blackstone, VA, on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. The family will receive visitors at the church starting at 10:00 a.m., with the service at 11:00 a.m. A private family graveside service will follow.
