Virginia Waddell "Boosie" Cobbs, age 85, of Blackstone, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Wilbur Cobbs, Jr. "Dice"; three sisters, Mary Kay, Maude, and Jo; two brothers, Elston and John R.
Boosie is survived by a son, Richard, and his wife, Sue; three grandchildren, Richard Jr., Katie and Ginny; three great-grandchildren, Ry, Jack and Charlie; and a sister, Dorothy W. Leach (Leonard) of Decatur, Ala.
She was born in Rogersville, Ala., graduated from the University of Alabama in 1947, moved to Blackstone in 1948 where she taught U.S.History, U.S Government and Physical Education at Blackstone High School and Kenston Forest School. After retirement, Boosie devoted her life to helping her family, friends, and former students, as well as her many interests including golf, travel, and rose gardening.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, May 21, 2010, at Blackstone Presbyterian Church with a reception to follow in the church fellowship hall. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Boosie's home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Kenston Forest School, 75 Ridge Road, Blackstone, VA 23824 or to your favorite charity.
