Thomas Leo Rice

Thomas Leo Rice, 79, of Crewe, VA, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 13, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Dorothy Rice. Thomas is survived by his wife of 60 years, Emily Blevins Rice; his children, Tangie Womack (Tim) of Mechanicsville and Patrick Rice (Rosemary) of Beaverdam; a sister, Kitty Dews (Chuck) and a brother, Ronnie Rice (Sandy) both of Crewe, VA. He was blessed with five grandchildren, Luke Womack, Daniel Womack (Kayla), Seth Womack, Hannah Rice and Aaron Rice.

Tommy worked for VDOT for 30 years as an inspector and a contract analyst. He was a lifelong weightlifter and exercise enthusiast. He made many friends through the YMCA where he and Emily were longtime members.  He and Emily also enjoyed traveling in their RV during their retirement years before settling back in his hometown of Crewe. He found salvation in the Lord in his mid-twenties and raised his children to know the ways of Christ. Special thanks to Shantell Hawks, Angela Williams, and Debbie Green of James River Hospice for their exceptional care over the last five months.

A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M. at the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Rd., Blackstone, VA 23824 on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Life Church, Farmville Campus, 9 Mahan Rd., Farmville, VA 23901. www.mcmillianfuneralhome.com
