Thelma Jean Williams

Thelma Jean T. Williams, age 90, of Blackstone, VA, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Monday, August 5, 2024.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Thomas J. Williams; her parents, Howard Earl Tompkins, Sr. and Iris Allene Byrd Tompkins; three sisters, Grace Louise Roughton, Dorothy Ann Crews, Daisy Mae Tompkins; four brothers, William Frederick Tompkins, Howard Earl Tompkins, Jr., Dwight Byrd Tompkins and George Edward Tompkins.  Jean is survived by four children, Sharon Barton (Robert), Ronnie Williams, Timmy Williams (Ella Ruth) and Susan Waycaster; eight grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Dale Martin (Joe); a brother, James Raymond Tompkins (Dianna); numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was a homemaker in the early years of her marriage.  Jean also worked outside of the home.  Jean was employed by Levi Strauss Company and Craddock-Terry Shoe Company in Blackstone.  She was also employed by Armbrusters Restaurant of Blackstone, VA and Sunday’s Restaurant of Chesterfield, VA.  After she retired, Jean did babysitting for family and friends and was a caregiver for Mrs. Barbara Parsons.  Jean got her first guitar when she was 12 and she especially enjoyed music.  Her favorites were bluegrass, mountain music, classic country and gospel hymns.  Jean and Thomas were charter and lifelong members of Heritage Baptist Church of Chesterfield, VA.  The family is grateful for all the prayers, love and support from family, friends and Jean’s church family.  We know her faith has become sight and she will ever be with the Lord.  She was a gentle soul and we will miss her until we meet again. 

The family will receive friends and family from 5-7 P.M., Monday, Aug. 12, 2024 at the Blackstone Chapel of the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Rd., Blackstone, VA  23824.  Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. with visitation starting an hour before on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, at Heritage Baptist Church, 7777 Cogbill Rd., Chesterfield, VA  23832.  Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. in Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Ave., Richmond, VA  23238.
