Teresa J. Keller (9/2/1955 – 7/7/24) This is my obituary, written of course, before I passed away. I was born in Wise County, Virginia on September 2, 1955. When I was 6 years old my mother moved us to Victoria, Va. where she met and married the man I called my daddy.
I was raised by my parents in Victoria and my grandmother and great aunt in Big Stone Gap. I attended school in Lunenburg County and in Wise County (Powell Valley High School), graduating from Central of Lunenburg in 1973.
After High School I served honorably in the U. S. Army for six years, obtaining the rank of Sp. 5 (E-5). After separation from the Army in December 1979, I attended Southside Virginia Community College and earned an Associates Degree in Human Services. I worked as a Social Worker at Nottoway Social Services for 28 years, retiring in 2015.
I was preceded in death by my parents Ruth and Tommy Jackson, grandmother Loretta Hood, great aunt Mary Neely, granddaughter Hailey Monroe, brother Tripp Pernell, and my heart dog, Nugget. I am survived by my husband of 30 years Richard Keller, my sons Shane Monroe (Jennifer), Wil Monroe (Cara), and Blake Keller (Kelly): my grandchildren Cody Overton, Caitlin Adams (Matt), Faith Monroe, Ryan Keller, Ethan Keller, Alex Keller, Maci Monroe, Sterling Gunn, Sofia Monroe, and Isaac Monroe: my great grandchildren Brantly Allen and Cooper Adams. Also surviving are my siblings Jo Ellen Clary (Frankie), Patty Epperson (Root), Mary Lewis, Tammy Newcomb, Randy Jackson (Chealsea), and Sally Lee (Bill). My three dogs, Hank, Luke, and Diege also survive me.
I have lived a good life and wish to thank God for my time here on Earth, and for His salvation that gives me eternal life with Him.
During my illness I was floored by the many friends and family stopping by to visit and bring gifts, food, flowers, etc. I thank God for giving me these few months to enjoy them.
I wish to thank everyone for the many prayers sent up for me. I was hoping to be healed so I could be a testimony for Christ, but instead I am living with Jesus.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Rd Blackstone, VA. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 10 at 11:00 am at New Hope Christian Church, 742 New Hope Rd. Alberta, VA (Danieltown). Burial with Military Honors will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Blackstone, VA.
In lieu of flowers contributions in my memory may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
