Sharron Horner Obituary

Sharron H. Horner was born February 13, 1949, to Elva Tarrant and Irving Charles Hughes at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. Her father was military and they traveled a lot and lived in many different places. She was the widow of David L. Horner.

She graduated high school in Virginia Beach, Virginia and continued her education at James Madison University. Sharron also earned he master’s degree from Longwood University.

She began her teaching career at Blackstone Junior High School. She lived most of her life in Nottoway County sharing her gifts with students and faculty.

Sharon shared her love of learning with all of her students and while she could be rather strict, most will tell you how much she truly prepared them for college and their future. She was a dedicated teacher, dual enrollment instructor, and mentor to many. Sharron loved the outdoors, flowers and animals.

She is survived by a special friend Lewis Williamson and they were able to travel and make many memories along the way. Also, she leaves behind siblings, Lannah Hughes, Patrick Hughes, Michael Hughes, step-daughter Nancy Blair Myers, caretaker Teresa Hill, and a host of friends and fellow educators that will miss her tremendously. Arrangements by the Blackstone Chapel of the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home. Memorial Service will be held at 4:30 PM, on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the Blackstone Chapel of the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home.  www.mcmillianfuneralhome.com
