Sarah Mabel Sherrill Watkins

Mrs. Sarah Mabel Sherrill Watkins, 100, of Blackstone, VA, formerly of Midlothian, VA and Charlotte, NC, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2011. She was born in Caldwell Co., NC to her parents, Bessie Hill Oxford Sherrill and John Caswell Sherrill. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Alva Edward Watkins of Pueblo, CO. She was also preceded by her five brothers, Ernest Sherrill, Hugh Poe Sherrill, Parks Sherrill, Kent Sherrill and Allen Sherrill.

Mabel is survived by her son, Sherrill Edward Watkins and his wife, Barbara Sue Albright Watkins of Midlothian, VA.; a grandson, Edward Morgan Watkins and his wife, Vonda of Maiden, NC; and two great grandchildren, Avelyn Mae Watkins and Rhylen Edward Watkins, both of Maiden, NC; two sisters, Nita Jones of Baltimore, MD and Shirley Branch of Lenoir, NC; and a brother, Coltrain C. Sherrill of Caldwell Co., NC.

Mabel attended Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory, NC and The Womens College in Greensboro, NC. She was a retired Sales Manager of the Wade Manufacturing Corporation of Charlotte, NC.

A graveside funeral service will be held in the Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC. The family requests in lieu of flowers, please make contributions to: The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College St., Oxford, NC 27565.
