Sarah Marie Ufford Davis, 96, widow of Frank W Davis, Sr., died Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Farmville, VA.
She was born 5 Feb 1915 at Aredale, IA to Sadie Wolcott and William B. Ufford.
She was preceeded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years and her only daughter Ellen D Meacham, grandson David P. Meacham, son-in-law Michael Meacham, her youngest son Emmett Davis, and daughter-in-law Marley Hoover.
She is survived by the families of three sons Frank and wife Dolly, William and wife Patricia, of Knoxville, TN; Lawrence and wife Rebecca of Monticello, FL, and Emmetts widow Ida Jo of Colonial Heights, VA. She has 14 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
She graduated from Iowa Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, Des Moines, IA in 1936, worked as a surgical nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD until her marriage in 1938.
While raising her five children, she worked as a staff nurse at Camp Pickett Hospital, and was a Public Health Nurse in Nottoway County for 28 years, retiring in 1980.
She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, James Allen Chapter DAR, St Marks Homemakers, and Meherrin Colonial Dames XVII Century.
The family will receive friends at the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home 1836 Cox Road, Blackstone, Virginia from 2 to 4:00 pm and 6 to 8:00 pm Friday, October 28. Funeral services will be held there at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 29. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Blackstone, Virginia following the funeral.
