Sarah Cline Gambrell Carson died October 14, 2024. She was born January 5, 1926, in Lexington, NC, to Grover Cleveland Gambrell and Irene Bostian Gambrell.
Sarah graduated from Lexington High School and attended Greensboro College for two years. In 1947 she graduated from Richmond Professional Institute (now VCU) where she was a student government officer and president of her senior class.
Following graduation she was hired as Director of Bellefont Recreation Association in Blackstone. There she met and married Edward Post (“Cap”) Carson on August 20, 1949. After caring for their three children for several years, Mrs. Carson served as a social studies teacher and guidance counselor at Blackstone High School and Nottoway High School.
Survivors include Deborah Cline Carson (George Marshall) of London, England, Sarah Frost Carson Beale of Blackstone, and Elizabeth Post Carson Reeves (Ben) of Lynchburg. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Elizabeth Amelia Marshall, Matthew Carson Beale, John Edward Beale, Katherine Frost Beale, Capt. William Post Reeves USAF, and Sarah Carson Reeves. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Owen Carson Beale, and Yuna Frost Beale.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, her sisters, Orlynne Gregson and Vivian Taylor, and her brother Norman Gambrell.
Mrs. Carson was an active member of the Blackstone Presbyterian Church serving as teacher, deacon, and elder. She was active in numerous community groups.
Her funeral will be held Friday, October 25, at 1 pm at Blackstone Presbyterian Church. Following the service a reception will be held in the church fellowship hall.
