Russell Manning Obituary

Russell A. Manning, 77, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on April 5, 2025. Russell was born in Iowa City and resided in Clinton, Iowa where he met his love of 60 years, Sharon (McClimon). Russell, Sharon and their children spent many years in Virginia and Florida until he found his dream property in Jetersville, Virginia where he spent the remainder of his life. He is preceded in death by his son, Jamie, his mother (Delores Wing), father (Robert D. Manning), brother (Robert “Bobby” E. Manning) and sister (Patricia “Patty” Manning). He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sharon, siblings Jerry Manning (Sandy) and Chelly Liles (Keith), his daughters Melissa “Missie” Manning and Jennie Horn (Kenneth), grandchildren Steven Taylor (Jessica Long), Anthony Taylor (Alyssa), Jacob Taylor (Madisin Atkins), Ian Taylor, Bayleigh Horn, Raelyn Horn, Paige Manning, Riley Manning and great grandchildren - Brayden Taylor, Michael Taylor, Trenton Lewis, Paisley Taylor, Jayme Taylor and Kayden Anderson and many nieces and nephews.

Russell worked as an independent contractor for custom home building for many years and eventually retired in 2012. His strong work ethic and busy nature led him to begin working in the produce section of the Amelia Food Lion in 2015, where he retired again in 2025. He made many friends everywhere he went and loved to get to know people. Though he loved to stay busy by taking care of the animals, doing yard work, and fixing the tractor and cars, he knew that true happiness was spent on the porch enjoying a cup of coffee with his family. His favorite pastime was spending time with his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
