Roy Samuel Saunders

Roy Samuel Saunders, three days shy of 103 years, went to eternal rest on May 6, 2011.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Inez Whittington Saunders, and a son, Robert Saunders. He leaves to mourn his passing, a daughter, Nancy S. Pierce and her husband Willard of Blackstone, VA; a son, Dale Saunders and wife Nancy of West Point, VA; a daughter-in-law, Nita Saunders, of Amelia, VA; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Roy was a dairy and beef cattle farmer for over 75 years. He was an active member of both Piedmont and Amelia Baptist Churches in Amelia, VA. In his most recent years, he attended Blackstone Presbyterian Church. Roy was a Christian and reared all his children and grandchildren as such. He was a credit to his church, family and community.

Visitation will be held Friday evening, May 13, 2011, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Road (Bus. Hwy. 460) in Blackstone, VA, and Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Amelia Baptist Church in Amelia, VA prior to the service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
