Robert (Bob) Glen Hanks, Jr., 82, of Crewe, Virginia passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on March 15th, 2026.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ola Church Hanks; his sons, Robbie (Melinda) and Bradley (Sheri); siblings, Jean Camacho, Peggy Eutsler, Linda Bass (Tommy), Ron Hanks (Beverly), Rick Hanks (Kathy); grandchildren, Brian (Kate), Colton (Amanda), Thomas, Ethan, Evie, Clara, and Audrey; great-grandchildren, Hayley, Claire, Grayson, Caden, and Noah; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Louise Hurt Hanks and father, Robert Hanks, Sr.
Bob was born on December 8th, 1943, in Victoria, Virginia and graduated from Victoria High School in 1961. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and served from 1962 to 1968. He worked for Norfolk & Western Railroad for 33 years. He was a pillar of the community where he served as a Gideon, a Life Member of the Nottoway County Emergency Squad, a devoted member of the Crewe Baptist Church, a proud member of the VFW, an avid member of the Landowner’s Hunt Club, and a coach for little league baseball.
Bob enjoyed fishing in the Outer Banks and loved hunting, farming, and shag dancing with his beloved wife. He built cherished memories with his grandkids and great-grandkids fishing from the pier, boating around the canals, and spending time on the farm with their two Dachshunds, Maggie and Oscar.
Bob will be dearly missed, and his legacy of faith, love, and community will be carried on by his family and all who were honored to know him.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday, March 19, 2026 in Crewe Baptist Church, 400 E. Virginia Ave., Crewe, VA 23930. The family will receive friends from 10-11 A.M., before the service. Burial will be at a later date in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia with military honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bob’s memory to the Gideon’s International or the Crewe Baptist Church Choir.
