Mona Marie Mills Bivins, 87, of Amelia Courthouse, VA, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side and went to her heavenly home the day after her birthday. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and devout Christian. Mona has worn many hats in her life working as a cook, housekeeper, home healthcare giver and stay-at-home wife and mother raising seven children. Her favorite activities included celebrating the Lord, listening to gospel bluegrass music, spending time with her extensive family and sending personal notes and cards to all for many occasions.
She was the youngest and last living of 10 children of Nora and Frank Mills of Danville, VA. Besides her parents and siblings, she was also preceded in death by her son, Al Troy Newton, and great granddaughter, Rynlee Rose Newton. Mona is survived by six children, Kent L. Newton of Richmond, VA, Cynthia M. Hopkins of Amelia, VA, Buddy D. Newton of Colorado Springs, CO, Susan E. Saatkamp of Kell, IL, Richard A. Bivins, Jr. of Bloomsdale, MO, and Sherrie M. South of Dupo, IL. She was blessed to have had 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 8, 2024 in Hope Chapel Foursquare, 9661 Wayside Ave., Amelia Courthouse, VA 23002. The family will receive friends following the services in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hope Chapel or to the American Cancer Society.
