Milly, as known to her friends, was born in Blackstone, Virginia, to Hugh and Nelle Vaughan, and was the oldest and only surviving sibling of five brothers and one sister. She was preceded in death in 1977 by her beloved husband, Norman, having been married for thirty-eight years. After graduating from Blackstone College for Women in 1933 she worked in Washington, D.C. for the Army Corps of Engineers. It was there, at Mt. Vernon Place Methodist Church, that she met and married Norman. They raised their family in New Jersey, Minnesota, Texas, and Oklahoma. In 1997, she moved to Poquoson to be with her daughter and husband, Mike and Linda Montgomery, who were her primary and loving caregivers. The last four years of Millys life she was additionally cared for by the wonderful staff of Dominion Village of Poquoson and Juanita Blue. The family is also grateful for the faithful care by Dr. Harriet Jones and her staff, and by Hospice Community Care. She was a member of many civic and service organizations throughout her life but was most proud of being a Methodist. She was also included in the family of Poquoson Baptist Church which she attended with her daughter and family. She had many interests, enjoyed playing the piano, and traveling world-wide. She was captain of her college basketball team and had a life-long interest in basketball. Her family includes sons Russ Foster and wife, Susan, of Dallas, TX, and Doug Foster of Louisville, KY; and daughter Linda Montgomery and husband, Mike, of Poquoson, VA.
