Mildred Kelley Bass

Mildred Kelley Bass, 101, of Crewe, VA, the daughter of Patrick and Olive Kelley, died peacefully on August 10, 2024.  She is survived by her daughter, Amy Bass Thornton (Wayne) of Stuarts Draft; her son, Mark Bass (Alison) of Henrico; and five grandchildren: Jeffrey Thornton, Anna, Moira and Julia Bass, and Susan K. Bass.  Mildred was predeceased by her husband, Warriner L. Bass; two brothers, William “Billy” Kelley and Edward “Ned” Kelley; her son, Warriner L. “Tad” Bass II; and her grandson, Timothy Thornton.

Family was Mildred’s passion, and she cared for hers faithfully. She was a devoted correspondent to extended family and friends, writing dozens of letters each month. She also loved reading, especially the Bible and historical romance. She also loved serving at Crewe Baptist Church, especially in the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU).  Mildred looked forward to the home God was preparing for her in heaven and to the day when she would join Him and her lost loved-ones there.  She will be sincerely missed until we see her again there. 

Mildred’s family is deeply grateful to the staff at The Woodland in Farmville who cared for her so faithfully and brought her much peace and joy in her final years.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Friday, August 23, 2024, in Crewe Cemetery, The Falls Rd., Crewe, VA  23930.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the WMU of Crewe Baptist Church, 400 E.
