Michael Wade Vernon, 57, of Blackstone Virginia passed away peacefully in is home surrounded by his loving family on March 23, 2025. He was preceded in death by his adoring parents Ronald and Janice Vernon. He is survived by his devoted wife JoAnn Vernon; his children Kayla Vernon, Kelsey Vernon, Danny Queensberry Jr. (Madison), and Matthew Queensberry (Alyssa); his grandchildren Brady, Clyde, Preston, and Anna; his sister Cindy Evans (Dirk); his nephew and niece Jacob and Morgan; his uncles and aunts Whip and Mary Sue Wilson and Charlie and Diane Dew, and his godparents Lowry and Linda Staylor.
Mike was born and raised in Nottaway County. After graduating high school, he went to work for Burkeville Body shop where he was employed for 37 years. Mike was a calm and gentle soul whose smile lit up a room. He never met a stranger and his friendship was cherished by all that knew him. Mike loved grilling out with loved ones, any other time he could be found fishing and hunting. Above all, Mike was good hearted, optimistic, and a pillar of strength. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends who will miss him more than words can express.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025 from 5-7 pm, at Joseph McMillian Funeral Home located at 1826 Cox Road Blackstone, Virginia 23824. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Mike’s name to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation @ NFWF.org.
