Michael Smith Obituary

Michael Charles Smith, age 84, of Amelia, VA, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Monday, January 27, 2025.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Donna Lynn Smith.  Mike is survived by his five children, Michele Rimli (Mark) of Hatteras, NC, Hope Smith of Amelia, VA, Michael Smith (Andrea) of Blackstone, Donald Smith of Sussex, NJ and Jennifer Dwyer (Raymond) of Budd Lake, NJ.  Mike is also blessed to have 15 grandchildren, Whitney Skeen, Serena Abernathy, Zach Rimli, Corey Thompson, Donna Thompson, James Smith, Courtney Smith, Kaylee Benner, Gregory Smith, Sara Smith, Brandon Smith, Justin Benner, Sean Dwyer, Finn Dwyer and Cassidy Dwyer; and 10 great grandchildren, Patrick Ayres, Jaxon Skeen, Brayden Skeen, Isaiah Benner, Jaxson McHugh, Ethan McHugh, Amira Benner, Ellianna Benner, Charles Abernathy and Madeline Abernathy. 

He never met a dog he didn’t like.  Mike was a Pharmaceutical Senior Worker for 30 years at Hoffman-La Roche Pharmaceutical Inc. He also served in the US Army National Guard for 12 years and will be laid to rest with his wife in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia in the upcoming summer.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2025 at the Blackstone Chapel of the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Road, Blackstone, VA  23824. The family will be gathering at Mitchell’s Restaurant following the visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.   www.mcmillianfuneralhome.com
