Martha Frances Roberts Olsen, age 84, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, October 28.
She was the widow of Charles Clifford Olsen and the daughter of the late Jesse Frederick Roberts and Lizzie Poole Roberts.
She had lived her entire life in Crewe, Virginia. She is survived by one son, Charles Clifford Olsen, Jr. and wife Diane of Chicago, Illinois and one daughter, Johanna Olsen Ackert of Lake Monticello, Virginia. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Erin Ackert of Lake Monticello and Anaka, Christian, Hannah and Sam Olsen of Chicago; three great-grandchildren and one sister, Mattie Roberts Woodyard of Hillsville, Virginia, and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Jesse Frederick Roberts, Jr. and Algie Lee Roberts, and two sisters, Mary Roberts Walker and Elsie Roberts Pafford.
Fran was a member of Pryor Memorial Presbyterian Church in Crewe. She was active in her community, having served on the Crewe Homecoming Committee since its inception in 1988 and was instrumental in the founding of Crewe Railroad Museum where she worked tirelessly up until the time of her illness. She was a tour director for Winning Tours for a number of years, organizing and leading trips in the U.S. and abroad.
A memorial service will be held at Pryor Memorial Presbyterian Church on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 11:00 am. Private Interment will be held at a later time.
Visitation will be held at the home from 6:00-8:00 pm on Friday, October 30. Memorial contributions may be made to Pryor Memorial Presbyterian Church or to the Crewe Railroad Museum. Joseph B. McMillian Funeral Home in Blackstone in charge of arrangements.
