Master Sergeant Lawrence D. Garrett, US Army (Ret.), 83, of Blackstone, VA, departed this life on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. A Communications Electronics Chief, he served in Germany, Italy, Japan, Taiwan, Korea and two tours of duty in Vietnam. Larry was awarded the National Defense Service medal, Army Commendation medal, Bronze Star medal, Good Conduct Medal (6 Awards), Meritorious Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam campaign medal and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/palm (Unit). After his retirement from the US Army, he worked as a telephone Technician at Fort Pickett and at the Outdoor Recreation/Game Check Station for several years.
He was predeceased by his wife, Christine Garrett, mother, Ruth Thomas Crow and father, Earvle Garrett from Poplar Bluff, MO and two brothers, Chester A. Garrett of IL, and Doyle L. Garrett of KY. He is survived by one sister, Gloria Hampton of Poplar Bluff, MO.
Funeral services with full military honors will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, April 22, 2024, at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery, 10300 Pridesville Road, Amelia, VA 23002.
