Laura Nicole “Nikki” Lester, 50, of Blackstone, VA, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024. Nikki is survived by her husband of 29 years, Andy Lester; three children, Ashley Carthen (Andrew), Reba Lester, and Andrew “AJ” Lester, Jr.; her mother, Addie B. Bennett (William C. Bennett IV, dec’d); brother, William C. “Clark” Bennett V and grandfather, William C. Bennett III.
She was a devoted mother and wife. She was heavily involved in the activities of her children’s involvement. Nikki served as a softball coach and worked hard to raise money for the season and the tournaments. She volunteered her time by working on fundraisers for the Nottoway High School band program and was president for a couple years, where her children performed. She worked alongside her husband with the Civil Air Patrol working on activities and functions to make sure they were successful. By being around other children, she cared for and looked after them as if they were her own. She took in her children’s friends and gave them lifetime memories.
Nikki also served her community with a huge heart. Her lifetime career was serving as a Communications Officer Supervisor at Nottoway Sheriff’s Office for over 20 years and part time as Communications Officer at Fort Pickett, now known as Fort Barfoot. She looked after everyone, whether on shift or not, to make sure her officers and coworkers were safe. She would advocate for her citizens to make sure that they would get the most effective and efficient service that was needed. While doing so, she also volunteered as an EMT for Nottoway County for 10 years and served on the fire auxiliary for Blackstone Fire Department as a life member of 20+ years.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, November 2, 2024, in Crewe Cemetery, The Falls Rd., Crewe, VA 23930. A Celebration of Life gathering will take place directly following the service at the Crewe Volunteer Fire Department, 1105 West Virginia Ave., Crewe, VA 23930. Arrangements are by the Blackstone Chapel of the Joseph McMillian Funeral, 1826 Cox Rd., Blackstone, VA 23824.
