Kelly Wayne Gowin

K. Wayne Gowin, age 73, of Burkeville, VA, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 24, 2024.  He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marian Ward Gowin; three sons, Christopher Gowin (Janie), Eric Gowin (Carrie) and Matthew Gowin (Erin); eight grandchildren, Rebekah, Elisha, Caleb (Grace), Jared, Isaiah, Abigail, Katharina, Jacob; a brother, Donald Gowin (Jean).  He is preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Nettie Gowin; a brother, Omer Gowin; and a sister, Edna Goin. 

Wayne took great pride in being a native of Burkeville, VA, and loved the community and people that surrounded him.  He was a gifted musician and guitarist, most notably with the band, Shados-M.  Wayne was an avid history buff and a co-founder of the 18thVA Infantry, Company G, which is the “Nottoway Grays”.  He loved and supported his family, meeting no stranger, and sharing lots of stories.  Wayne enjoyed helping others as a Service Technician and retired after working for General Electric Company for 29 years.  Most importantly, he was a devoted family man. Wayne had a quiet and resolute faith as a follower of Jesus Christ. 

The family will receive friends at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, September 7, 2024, in the Burkeville Baptist Church, 222 S. Agnew St., Burkeville, VA 23922, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 A.M.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society www.lls.org.
