John Norman Thompson, 79, of Blackstone, VA, formerly of Edgewater Park, NJ, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
John was a devoted husband, brother and loving grandfather, affectionately known as “Poppy John” to many of his family and grandchildren. He was a retired HazMat Safety Training Specialist working in the compressed gas industry for over 40 years. He enjoyed traveling, watching horse racing and playing cards and board games and was known for his jokes and “silly antics”.
John is survived by his sister Sue Anderson (Dennis), brother Tim Thompson (Kathy), sister Teresa Coppola and brother Doug Taylor; sister-in-law Estrella Thompson; stepson John Ryan (April) and stepdaughter Sara Gilmore (Francis) of Blackstone, VA; 10 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen M. Thompson and first wife Patricia Thompson; parents, Samuel Thompson and Shirley and Leroy Taylor; sister, Pollyann Race and brothers, Ricky Thompson and Randy Thompson.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, January 31, 2025, at the Monument Cemetery, 812 Bridgeboro Road, Edgewater Park, NJ 08010. Arrangements are by the Blackstone Chapel of Joseph McMillian Funeral Homes. www.mcmillianfuneralhome.com
