John F Hamilton

John F. Hamilton, 92, of Burkeville, VA, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo. Surviving are his daughters, Mary Jo Dalton (Brad) of Midlothian, Judy H. McCann (Pat) of Burkeville and Carol H. Hardaway of Blackstone; brothers, James Whit Hamilton, Alexander Hamilton; five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

John attended Virginia Tech to study Dairy Science but returned to run the family farm “Hamhurst Farm” along with his younger brother following the death of his father. Over the years he was well known throughout the county and the state as a top cattleman. He was a lifelong member of Burkeville Presbyterian Church. 

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 P.M., Friday, September 13, 2024, at the Blackstone Chapel of Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Rd., Blackstone, VA  23824.  Graveside funeral services will be held following the visitation at 3:00 P.M. in Sunset Hill Cemetery, 860 Burkes Tavern Rd., Burkeville, VA 23922.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Burkeville Vol. Fire Department, Attn: EMS FUND, P.O.
