John Lester Acre, Sgt. First Class, U.S. Army (Ret.), 91, of McKenney, VA, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2010.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Helen Michnuk Acre; two daughters, Marlene A. Mikan of Glenshaw, PA and Holly Deborah Acre of McKenney; two granddaughters, Susan Egan and Lori Mikan; two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Acre was born in Natrona Heights, PA to Lester V. and Goldie Clendenien Acre. He was a World War II veteran, having seen action in France and Germany, and was awarded and received the Bronze Star. He was also stationed in Okinawa and Germany after the war.
A chapel funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 10, at the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Road (Bus. Hwy. 460) near Blackstone, with visitation to follow until 3:00 p.m. Entombment services in Southlawn Cemetery, Petersburg, will be private.
