James R. “Jim” Austin, Sr., 79, of Crewe, VA passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026 at his home. He was part owner of Austin’s Construction of Crewe and a well-known and longtime “watermelon man”. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Linda June Cranford Austin; a son, Jimmy “Jimbo” Austin, Jr., (Jennifer), a daughter, Brittany “Sis” Austin of Crewe; five grandchildren, Megan Timberlake (Michael), Chaley Tennefoss (Scott), Aaron “AJ” Austin, Josie Austin (Mike) and Wyatt Timberlake (Rikki); four great grandchildren, Boone, Koe, Marshall and Dani and another great granddaughter on the way; a brother, Vernon “Toad” Austin (Gaynelle); three sisters, Jean Brandon (Perk), Juanita Felts (Harry) and Wanda Reese (Billy); numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, May 15, 2026, at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 22482 Prince Edward Hwy., Rice, VA 23966. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Nottoway Cares, P.O. Box 45, Crewe, VA 23930.
