Jack Steven Shankman, aged 68, of Arlington, VA, passed away on April 7, 2024. Born on July 19, 1955, in Washington DC, Jack was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and son.
He is survived by his spouse, Teresa Cousins Shankman, daughters Sarah Swinehart (Riley) and Laura Evans (Britt), grandchildren Allyson, Parker, Bobby and Brooke, his brother, Gary Shankman, and his mother, Lottie Shankman. Jack was preceded in death by his father, Seymore Shankman.
Jack was a man of many talents and a true craftsman. He enjoyed woodworking, home renovations, and cherished spending time with his grandchildren. Known for his selflessness, hard work ethic, and curiosity, Jack had a natural ability to solve problems and think outside the box. He constantly reinvented himself and demanded excellence in all aspects of his life.
Jack's long career was focused on large-scale organizational transformations and leadership development and coaching. He was a Partner at CSC, Principal at Booz Allen, Director of Organizational Development at Bons Secours and owner of Fleetwood Associates. He served on the Board of the Capital Area Alzheimer's Association and was Adjunct Professor for American University's NTL program. He earned a B.S. from the University of Maryland and a Masters from American University.
A burial service for Jack will be held at Butterwood Methodist Church, in Dinwiddie County, on May 18th at 3 pm, near the family farm which he adored. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Georgetown Lombardi Cancer Institute or the Butterwood Methodist Cemetery Fund.
Jack will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Local Arrangements are by the Blackstone Chapel of the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Rd., Blackstone, VA 23824.
