Irene Edmonds Mayton

Irene Edmonds Mayton, 93, of Blackstone, VA, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Alfred Edmonds and Sallie Slaughter Edmonds; her husband, James Wesley Mayton, Sr.; son, James Wesley Mayton, Jr. and daughter, Patricia Neil Mayton.  Irene is survived by her granddaughters, Christle Mayton McGraw (Billy) and Gwendolyn Mayton; great grandchildren, Lane Bramlett, Ryan Bramlett, Will McGraw (Monica), Lizzie Parrish (Bryson); great great grandchildren, Tristan McGraw, Brayden Oakes and Leila Parrish; and a sister, Shirley Grady (Jimmy); and numerous nieces and nephews.  She is one of 13 children of her parents and was preceded also in death by Vergie Brooks, Mary “Booty” Mayton, Cornelia “Nig” Mills, John Edmonds, Robert Edmonds, Clarence “Dick” Edmonds Sr., Bernice Edmonds, Bernard Edmonds, Ernest Edmonds, Edith Thompson and Martha Reekes. 

The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until 12:30 P.M., Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the Blackstone Chapel of the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Rd., Blackstone, VA 23824.  A procession and graveside service will take place directly following in Lakeview Cemetery in Blackstone.  www.mcmillianfuneralhome.com
