Franklin Delano Yancey, Sr, 83, of Blackstone, VA died peacefully in his home on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
Frank was known by most as “Doc,” as he was Blackstone’s pharmacist owning Spencer’s Drug Store for over 40 years. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Ferrum College, he graduated from Pharmacy School at the Medical College of Virginia in 1967. He then went on to serve in the United States Army for several years. He was also an active member of the Blackstone Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce. He regularly attended Crenshaw United Methodist Church and was a devoted member of the men’s bible study class.
Aside from his quick wit and warm smile, Doc’s laughter, kindness, and generosity stood out the most. He had a true gift for making others feel seen, valued, and uplifted. His passion for sports was unwavering. He supported all local teams, coached Little League, and watched more sporting events than one could imagine. Doc was an icon in the Blackstone community, and his legacy of joy, service, and love will live on in all those who knew him.
Mr. Yancey was preceded in death by his loving wife, Debbie Yancey, his brother, Jerry Yancey of Pinellas Park, FL, and his parents Eloise and A. Rousaw Yancey of Clarksville, VA. He is survived by his three children Franklin Yancey, Jr (Frances) of Charlotte, NC, Cameron Yancey (Keri) of Blackstone, VA, and Allison Robertson (Brad) of Midlothian, VA. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Madison and Caroline Yancey of Blackstone, VA, Graham and Logan Robertson of Midlothian, VA, and Andie and Connor Koutsokalis of Charlotte, NC.
