Flossie Adams Obituary

Florence “Flossie” Adams, 85, of Amelia, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Edith Barnard, her husband of 49 years George Adams and her brother Stephen Barnard.

She is survived by her daughter, Libby Whitt (John) of Wilsons, and two grandchildren, Zachary Wells  (Olivia) of Blackstone and Sarah Whitt of Stafford and a great granddaughter, Adelynn, due in March. She is also survived by her brother Bill Barnard of Powhatan as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Flossie was an educator. She taught at Kenston Forest and Amelia Public School but spent most of her teaching years at Amelia Academy teaching PreKindergarten and Driver’s Education.  She was also a children’s Sunday school teacher. She loved teaching but her true passion was working on the family tobacco farm and gardening.  She planted a large garden and enjoyed canning and sharing the harvest with others.  Flossie was well known for her home cooking and fed many people in her home as well as in the community.  Her pickled beets and peanut brittle were legendary. 

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Monday, February 23rd, 2026 in Lakeview Cemetery in Blackstone.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Amelia Academy or Bellefonte Grange.  Arrangements are by the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home of Blackstone.
