Mrs. Emily Colleen Matthews Hansen, of Blackstone, passed away March 12, 2010. She was born March 1, 1928 in Sanford, N.C., the daughter of the late Ratha Cotton and Earl Lester Matthews, and the widow of Claude Canut Hansen.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine H. and Charlie Buck Wootton of Blackstone and Stacey H. and Garland Slonaker of Chesterfield; granddaughters, Jessica K. Wootton of Blacksburg and Emily Rebekah Slonaker of Chesterfield; a half-sister, Lenora M. Ram of Satellite Beach, Fla.; half-brothers, David Earl Matthews and James Elmon Matthews; and a sister-in-law, Frances H. Tinoco of Richmond.
She was also predeceased by her sister, Marie M. Coleburn Hardy, and is survived by her nephews, William Curtis Coleburn III and John Parks Coleburn.
Colleen was an employee of three Blackstone institutions, Spencers Drugstore, the Dairy Freeze, and Slaws Restaurant, and was an avid bowler. She was a member of the Blackstone Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M., Sunday, March 14, at the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Road (Bus. Hwy. 460), near Blackstone. Graveside funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Monday, March 15, 2010 in Lakeview Cemetery.
