Edwin Claude Helton

Edwin Claude “Ed” Helton, 86, of Wilsons, VA, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024.  He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy Beville Helton; two daughters, Cheryl Hammer and Janet Tinney (Steven); grandchildren, Kate Helton (Bill), Dustin Tinney (Elizabeth), Travis Tinney (Katie), Sarah Adams (Bobby) and Tyler Burcham; great grandchildren, Ryman, Rhett, Shelby, Lucy, Triton, Trinity, Hank and Fisher; his devoted companions, Clyde and Sam.   Ed was preceded in death by his mother, Tressa Cain, and father, Paul Helton; infant son, David Alan Helton and son-in-law, Chuck Hammer.  He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Claude and Effie Collins; and aunt, Helen Chastain.

Ed made a positive difference for so many through his faith, love of family and friends, strong patriotism and work ethic, and sense of humor. He was very proud of his service as deacon and trustee at Sharon Baptist Church, and loved his work with the Darvills Ruritan Club and the “brotherhood” he had with them. 

The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M., Thursday, August 29, 2024 at the Blackstone Chapel of Joseph McMillian Funeral Homes, 1826 Cox Rd., Blackstone, VA  23824.  Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M., Friday, August 30, 2024, at Sharon Baptist Church, 4111 Darvills Rd., Blackstone, VA  23824, with burial to follow in the church cemetery with military honors by the US Army.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Sharon Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund.
