Edward Gordon Obituary

Edward R. Gordon, 78, of Blackstone, VA and formerly of Amelia Courthouse, left this earthly plain on Saturday, March 9, 2024 with a graceful exit, surrounded by family and friends with their love he had nurtured all his life.

Edward proudly served his country with the United States Air Force. Through the years, Ed enjoyed his family, friends, animals and singing more than anything else. He was a stranger to no one and found great purpose sharing-in the successes, joys, and challenges of those around him. Ed was authentically and wholeheartedly there for those in his life. He had a beautiful voice and loved his involvement with the Amelia Presbyterian Church choir. Ed was known as the “social butterfly”, and it would prove to be his superpower as he was always armed with a smile, hearty laugh and the ability to tell a tall tale or two. You could often hear him singing or humming a song or referring to someone as “honey” or “sweetheart”.

One of the highlights of his life was a trip to Scotland in 2000 with his wife Sallie, his Uncle Jack Gordon and Aunt Fey. They researched their genealogy and walked the grounds and castles of their Gordon ancestors. He loved to attend the Richmond Highland Games adorned in his kilt and Scottish regalia. Never ask a Scotsman what he wears under his kilt.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Sallie Gordon, son Jack Gordon (Laura), stepsister Anne Phillips, grandsons Jackson Gordon (Avery) and Christopher Mayer (Stephanie), granddaughters Abigail Gordon and Starla Mayer, great grandson Gunner Mayer, also including uncles, aunts, cousins and other assorted family and many caring friends.

Edward is preceded in death by his father Edward H. Gordon, mother Noree Gordon, stepmother Mildred Gordon and sister Gayle Drummond.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Amelia Presbyterian Church, 16401 Dunn St., Amelia Courthouse, VA, 23002 with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Amelia Animal Shelter, 16565 Five Forks Rd., Amelia Courthouse, VA 23002 or to the Amelia Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are by the Blackstone Chapel of the Joseph McMillian Funeral Homes. www.mcmillianfuneralhome.com
