Mrs. Dorothy Turner Burnette of Amelia, Virginia died Saturday, July 21, 2007. She was born April 12, 1915, the daughter of the late Ethel Moody and Fitzhugh Lee Turner. Dorothy was a retired art teacher of Amelia County schools, having taught for over 30 years and was an artist specializing in old homes, court houses and barns. She is the widow of James Crawford Burnette and is survived by three daughters, Lee Burnette Elam of Midlothian; Nancy B. Jones and her husband, Edward of Nottoway County and Elisabeth "Jo" B. Cooper and her husband, Steven of Mill Valley, California. Dorothy is also survived by her six grandchildren, Chris Elam, Burnette Elam (Christine), Ned Jones (Jennifer), Hunter Jones (Tanya), Charlotte Cooper and Max Cooper; seven great grandchildren, Jarret and Nicholas Elam, Lindsey and James Elam, and Laura, Molly and Aubyn Jones. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Tau Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Village Garden Club. The family will recieve friends at her home in Amelia from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M., Monday, July 23. Graveside funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at the Amelia Presbyterian Church Cemetery. A special thank you from the family to The Byrd House and the nurses where she spent her last few years.
