Dorothy Latham Agnew

Dorothy Latham Agnew, 78, of Burkeville, VA, passed away Monday, January 4, 2010. She was the widow of William Thomas (Bill) Agnew and the daughter of the late Dr. George Henry Latham II and Beulah Pollock Latham.

Dorothy is survived by her four children, Betty Agnew Bell and husband, Dr. Hunter Bell of Manassas, Helen Agnew Willis and husband, Buck Willis of Chesterfield, Dr. William Thomas (Tom) Agnew and wife, Lee Agnew of Broken Arrow, OK and Robert Maurice (Bob) Agnew and wife, Helena Agnew of Chesterfield; 11 grandchildren; two great granddaughters; 13 nieces and nephews; and a brother, George Henry Latham of Richmond. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, James Perkins Agnew of Burkeville and sister-in-law, Helen Agnew Koonce of High Point, NC.

Dorothy attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY and Medical College of Virginia Nursing School and retired for the Nottoway Co. Department of Social Services. She played the organ for over 50 years in many area churches, most recently in St. Lukes Episcopal Church, where she was a member.

Dorothy was active in many organizations including the Three Arts Club and was a Past President of the Blackstone Garden Club. She was a gracious lady who took great joy in all aspects of life; she loved her family, friends, church, travelling, flowers and her many pets.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M., Thursday, at the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Rd., (Bus. Hwy. 460), near Blackstone. Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Friday, January 8, 2010 at St. Lukes Episcopal Church, followed by a reception in the parish hall. Interment in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Burkeville, VA.
