Doris Thompson Barrett

Doris Thompson Barrett, 75, of Blackstone, VA, went home to rest in peace with the Lord on Sunday, October 25, 2009.

She was a retired Postmaster of the United States Postal Service with Lunenburg Courthouse, VA, and Bruno, West Virginia and was an active member of the Blackstone Church of God.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Wade and Pearlie Atkins, and great-grandsons, Jacob Isaac Maynard and Jacob Barrett Daniel.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Clarence; four children, Donna Mullins and husband, Larry of Bruno, WV; Larry Barrett and wife, Shirley of Alberta; Ramona Doty and husband, Bruce of Lorado, WV, and Bradley Barrett of Blackstone; ten grandchildren, Michael Mullins(Leanne), Michelle Vest(David), Cheryl Daniel(Danny), Devin Simon(Eric), Laura Barrett, Tracey Doty, Bradley "BJ" Barrett, Dwaine "Boo" Barrett, Mary Barrett,and Destinee Barrett; four great-grandchildren, Logan Barrett Daniel, Katelynn Vest, Evan Mullins and Macie Mullins; two sisters, Jean Carpenter of Bruno, WV, and Christine Garrett of Blackstone; three brothers, Jamie Lee Atkins, Wade Douglas Atkins,and Arthur Ray Atkins, all of Blackstone.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M., Wednesday, Oct. 28 at the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Rd. (Bus.Hwy 460), near Blackstone, and where chapel funeral services will be held 1 P.M., Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009. Burial to follow in Lakeview Cemetery.
