Clifford “Cliff” George Rusch, age 79, passed away peacefully, supported by his family, at his home on December 11, 2024.
Cliff was born in Milwaukee, WI, on September 11, 1945. He met and married his beloved wife, Sue Rusch (predeceased), while serving in the Army and stationed at the former Fort Pickett. He and Sue raised their family in Racine, WI, before moving back to the area in 1982.
After working at Burkeville Body Shop for a season, Cliff opened his own body shop in Crewe, VA. However, most will remember him from Wal-Mart in the sporting goods department and as a beloved greeter. He had a warm and engaging smile for all.
After retiring, Cliff enjoyed fishing, tending his roses, and enjoying his pets. Briar, a perfect match rescue dog, gave him much comfort in his last days. He had a tender heart for animals and any stray who wandered into his yard was well-fed and affectionately enjoyed. He often brought home unusual pets to his family: a parot, a descented skunk, and several ferrets to name a few.
He was eager to help those in need and though he didn’t have much, he willingly gave what he could. Those wishing to give a donation in his memory may give to the Nottoway County Animal Shelter: Nottoway CAReS, PO box 45, Crewe, VA 23930.
Cliff’s family and friends will celebrate him in the Spring. He is survived by his five children: Diana Abernathy (Corky), Cliff Rusch (Beth), Sheila Deschler (Kurt), Randy Rusch, and Gina Parrish. Cliff had 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The Blackstone Chapel of the Joseph McMillian Funeral home is in charge of arrangements. www.mcmillianfuneralhome.com
