Clayton Gray Thompson, Sr., son of Arthur and Bertha (Payne) Thompson of Cumberland County, Virginia, passed away on February 2, 2026, in Blackstone, Virginia. Born on June 16, 1945, Clayton was 80 years young and recently married Dora Thompson (Parpas).
Clayton will be remembered for his strong work ethic, outspoken personality, and hands-on approach to life. Much of his working career was spent as a general contractor and foreman with Kenbridge Construction. A true tinkerer and jack of all trades, Clayton developed many of his skills growing up as the youngest of eleven children, learning alongside his siblings on job sites and various projects.
In his retirement, Clayton found joy in woodworking and collecting antique toys. He also enjoyed riding around, visiting friends and family, and staying connected to those he loved. Despite his tough exterior, Clayton was a kid at heart and devoted himself as the primary caretaker for his late wife, Doris Marie Thompson (Coleman), during her final years.
He is survived by his four children: Cynthia Thompson; Clayton “Buck” Thompson, Jr.; Lisa C. Moses (Wayne); and John Thompson. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Laura, Jimmy Lee (Hayley), Christopher (Becky), Megan (Jason), Brandon, Ricky Lee, Jessica, Raven (Colby), Troy, Daisy and Justin; and his great-grandchildren: Tristan, Bristol, Aiden, Carson, Ronan, Juno, Logan, Josephine, Jameson, and Elaina. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Westview Cemetery in Farmville, Virginia. Arrangements by the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Rd., Blackstone, VA 23824.
