Charles Anderson Bentley, 85, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2008 in his home at 17219 McKenney Ave., DeWitt, VA.
He was a retired lumberman and lumbering and logging equipment salesman. Charles was a veteran of WWII, serving in the 1st Army Air Corps and 8th Division 13th Infantry Regiment in the European Theater, and was a recipient of several medals including two Purple Hearts. He was a member of the American Legion Post 149.
Charles was a member and elder of Bott Memorial Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Paula Howard Bentley; his son and daughter-in-law, John Hardaway and Mary Kathryn Bentley of DeWitt; and a grandson, Charles Hardaway Bentley II.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Friday, January 25, 2008 at Bott Memorial Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Bott Presbyterian Church, 17115 McKenney Ave., DeWitt, VA 23840 or to the Crater Community Hospice, 840 W. Roslyn Rd., Suite E, Colonial Heights, VA 23834.
His remains rest at the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Rd., (Hwy. 460 Business), Blackstone, VA.
