Carroll Swanson Wilkins, 90, of McKenney, VA, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. He is preceded in death by his Father , Cortelyou Wilkins, and Mother, Cecile Odelle Chandler Wilkins, his brother Curtis Maynard Wilkins. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Janie Gammon Wilkins, his sister in law, Ms. Curtis Maynard Wilkins (June) and her daughters (nieces) Linda W. Johnston(Paul) and Lori Wilkins, numerous other nephews and nieces from his wife’s side, as well as many cousins, and his church family and many friends.
He was a lifelong member of Sharon Baptist Church where he served as deacon (chairman), Sunday School Superintendent, and Sunday School Teacher.
Carroll retired after 30 years as Waste Water Sanitation Superintendent of Fort Pickett in Nottoway, Virginia. He worked another 10 years as Wastewater Supervisor at South Central Wastewater Authority in Petersburg, Virginia. Carroll also served in the U.S. Army and Virginia National Guard.
Carroll was born, raised, and lived his entire life on his family farm in Darvills, Virginia where, along with his wife Janie, he grew tobacco, gardened, and raised horses. Carroll’s passion for many years involved Field Trials, quail hunting, and breeding his beloved prizewinning English Pointers. He even had several articles published in The American Field Magazine.
The family will receive friends from 11 A.M. until the time of funeral services at 12 Noon on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Sharon Baptist Church, 4111 Darvills Road, Blackstone, VA 23824. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are by the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Rd., Blackstone, VA 23824.
