Anne Roberts Obituary

Anne Tinsley Roberts, age 63, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 24th after a year-long battle with brain cancer. Anne was born on June 16, 1961 in Richmond, Virginia to Bernard “Bernie” and Juanita Tinsley. She attended Longwood University where she met her love, Mickey Roberts, whom she married in 1983. Anne, or “Bird” as she was affectionately known by her eight grandchildren, was never one to sit still. She believed in the value of community and service, with a lifelong passion of teaching and helping others.

Anne served as a teacher at Prince George High School for 35 years, where she positively impacted the lives of thousands of students. She was heavily involved with the Special Olympics, and initiated the development of the Prince George chapter of “Little Feet Meet” within the school system. She was the PGHS Teacher of the Year in 2017, which reflected the same love back to her that she shared with her students and colleagues. When she wasn’t at PGHS, Anne could be found at any given baseball field within the state of Virginia, where she and Mickey hosted travel baseball tournaments and showcases for young athletes. It wasn’t just the love of the game that kept Anne busy at the ballfield. It was her love for people. Never having met a stranger, she could always be found talking with and providing her wise encouragement to countless athletes and their parents. Anne also served as an elder for her church community at Pryor Memorial Presbyterian Church in Crewe, VA.

Anne was considered one of the nicest, kindest, most generous and compassionate people by those who had the opportunity to know her. Her optimism was unparalleled, and her bright smile was contagious. Even throughout her battle with cancer, she maintained the same optimism, courage, grace, and unwavering faith in God that she displayed throughout her entire life.

Anne is preceded in death by her mother, Juanita Tinsley. Her spirit lives on through her husband of 40 years, Mickey Roberts; father, Bernard “Bernie” Tinsley; brother, Rick (Carolyn) Tinsley; her three children, Mike (Kate) Roberts, Sam (Haley) Roberts, and Dr. Maggie (David) Condon; and her eight grandchildren whom she loved and adored, Kara, Hallie, Mackenzie, Madison, Grady, Beau, J.J., and Graham.
