Allie Mae Barnes, 85, of McKenney, Va., passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2011, peacefully at her home.
She is the widow of Thomas Wright Barnes. Allie Mae was a retired public school teacher for Dinwiddie County, VA, where she shared Gods love with many children, including those with special needs.
She is survived by her two sons, Jerry Barnes (Laura) of Troutville, VA, and Gordon Barnes of McKenney; two grandchildren, Shonda Gosnell (Kenneth) of Frederick, MD and Tommy Barnes II (Kim) of Mechanicsburg, PA; seven great grandchildren, Carli, Caleb, Kaiden, Kyston, Jayden, Kylan and Thomas, Jr.; niece, Pat Kennel and nephew, Garnet Knabe. Allie Mae is preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Townsend Knabe, brother, Henry Gordon Townsend, and daughter-in-law, Judy Barnes.
She was dearly loved and cared for all her boys and girls of all ages and will be greatly missed by her community and her family. Allie Mae was one of the longest standing members of Sharon Baptist Church where she loved and served in many capacities.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM, Monday, at the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Rd. (Bus. Hwy. 460) near Blackstone. Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at Sharon Baptist Church in Darvills, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
